Hospice Project Profiles

Hospice of Dayton

Hospice of Dayton

This was a 42 bed addition, congruent with the design and integrity of the existing facility and incorporating the surrounding natural setting.

Matrix Architects was integral in the preparation of design concepts and project budgets for a Certificate of Need submittal to the State of Ohio for Hospice of Dayton.

The first phase of development incorporated 28 patient beds, a two-story, light-filled great room, family lounges and administrative office. The relaxing, life affirming benefits of an adjacent pond and mature stands of trees were incorporated into a facility that is attentive to the spiritual needs of Hospice patients. While lying in bed, patients watch birds and squirrels feeding outside their bedroom window and ducks swimming across the pond. These simple features create the Hospice ambiance that is critical to successful patient/family centered care and support.

The success of Phase I resulted in a 42-bed addition to the existing hospice facility. The same warm palette of materials is used thoughout, creating a unified flow of spaces with an intimate, home-like feel. The layout of the entire facility takes full advantage of, and enhances, its beautiful setting.
