Hospice of East Texas

Matrix Architects work with Hospice of East Texas involved long range masterplanning studies for their 23-acre gently rolling wooded site. Starting with a new 16 bed Inpatient Facility with Administration Office for a total of 30,000 square feet, along with a separate Facility Support building.

The balance of the naturally wooded site is preserved and a system of meandering walkways allow patients, family and staff the ability to easily access natural amenities. A walkway path from the adjacent residential development ties into the Hospice memory walkway allowing neighbors to interact with the Hospice site and patients. The inpatient complex takes full advantage of the beautiful site and world famous Tyler roses.

Within one month after opening their successful new 16 Bed Inpatient Facility, Hospice of East Texas and Matrix Architects began implementation of the masterplanned 12-bed addition and a freestanding 2,600 SF Bereavement House.

The addition utilizes the same red brick, tan trimmed windows and doors to continue the warm, home-like appearance of the original facility, yet it incorporates some new and innovative features. Six of the new patient rooms have exterior doors that open out onto individual patios bordered by attractive brick partial walls and connected by the meandering walkways. Other amenities include Murphy beds in the patient rooms and the Village Square for the community atmosphere.
